从表面上来看，刘升的作品中是生活中常见的物件，这些原本淳朴却无生命迹象的东西，因为这几寸画布他染上了生命、情感、神秘、静谧的气氛，用严肃的态度、写实的风格去追求任何事情存在于艺术中的价值，在刘升看来，万物皆有生命，而艺术是个神奇的情感表达方式，它赋予万物以生命，在现代的生活中，人们欣赏高雅，追求时尚，鲜有人对生活中常见的世间俗物东西进行深刻、细致的去观察，可是刘升会用这样的一双眼睛、一种特有的情感去紧紧追寻任何物件的另外一种生命呈现的方式，比如生活中的废铁、树枝上摇摇欲坠的风干石榴、路边废弃的古老的修鞋机、尘封已久的书籍、剥开的洋葱、路边小摊的香梨，虽然这些小物件就在我们身边，却很容易被人忽视，在刘升的艺术作品中它们以一种生命的姿态诠释他们自己的态度，那种静谧、那种神秘、那种雅致、那种无言却似有千言万语的姿态，也是艺术家本身的生活态度，淳朴的东西表达出真实的情感，却也是最能打动人心的。
